episode transcription

Hi, I’m glad to greet you, I’m Yael Yancelson and today we’re flying quickly with the power of imagination and senses to the medieval city of Prague where we’ll discover “fairytale” corners. and I assure you that we will fall in love with her, so breathe, give me your hand, let me guide you and let’s start!!

Our tour begins in the historic center of Stare Mesto, known as the Old City, where its very beautiful square stands out, which was the center of the old medieval city, let’s see some of the main monuments of the city, such as the Tower of the old Town Hall or the Tyn Temple. The town hall tower was built in 1364 as part of the first town hall building to be built in the square. We will go up to the top from where we will have the best panoramic views of the medieval center of Prague. The Prague Astronomical Clock is located on the facade of the town hall,

Do you see it? This dates back to 1410, and from there we went to the Tyn Temple, which is one of the great monuments, an icon of the city with its two towers that look out over a front of houses in the Old Town square. This church dates back to the 11th century, although its interior was rebuilt in the Baroque style after a great fire suffered in the 17th century.

You can see The Powder Tower, with a characteristic Gothic style that is one of the historic gateways to the Old Town of Prague, and is the only remaining tower of the 13 that were built in the 13th century fortification.

Now, if there is an iconic corner from a tourist point of view in Prague, that is the Prague Bridge that joins the two banks of the Vltava River and connects the Old City with the Mala Strana neighborhood, from where we will go up to the castle grounds .A curious corner of Mala Strana is known as the John Lennon Wall, a long wall with graffiti and lyrics of songs by The Beatles, which began to be painted after the death of John Lennon..

The entrance to the Prague Castle can be found in Hradcany Square, a large space where we can see various Renaissance-style palaces, as well as some Gothic-style houses. Attached to this square is Loreto Square, where it calls attention to the baroque façade of the Sanctuary of Loreto, a building with a large tower with 27 bells from the 17th century. Saint Vitus Cathedral is the main monument to visit in Prague Castle as it is the most important church in the Czech Republic, the The Royal Palace in Prague, which was built in the 12th century to be the residence of the kings of Bohemia, and throughout history was the seat of the Bohemian Parliament. Initially built in the Romanesque style, the Royal Palace was later expanded in the Romanesque style. Gothic, and the great Sala Ladislao is one of the most outstanding corners of it, is it impressive or not?

It is important to visit The Jewish Quarter of Prague, also known as Josefov, Originating in the 10th century, this neighborhood extends very close to the Old Town Square, and there we are going to visit the historic Jewish cemetery. It is a corner with a very special charm in the neuralgic center of the neighborhood, located in a wooded area in the center of the city, and which houses up to 11,000 graves. and outside several synagogues Let’s enter the Old Synagogue, from 1270, the oldest that you can now see in use in Europe, with a very austere building that mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles and the Moorish-style Spanish Synagogue that takes its name from the arrival in the 16th century of a community of Sephardic Jews from Spain. Looking there in front we can see a memorial statue to Franz Kafka, the great Czech author.

To finish you have to go to the center of the modern city of Prague, Wenceslas Square, a long and huge open space next to the Old City, we can quickly enter the National Museum, as well as numerous restaurants, theaters and commercial establishments .And there is so much to discover in this beautiful city that we will have to return, or not? While we will rest watching beautiful panoramic views in Letna Park.

And that is how we leave this beautiful and interesting region of the planet with the desire to return. We will travel every week to another corner of this wonderful world, to discover, enjoy and fly with our imagination, I wait for you every Friday and I ask you if you like to share the content with your friends and give me a like and a review of your comments because with that you help me a lot to raise the ranking of this podcast, ALTERNATE REALITY A UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT SPACE THAT CREATES COMMUNITY. We make a difference. And as I always tell you when helping others, we mainly help ourselves. If you want to know what the Include Me Foundation does for the labor and social integration of people living with intellectual disabilities, enter the link: www. incluyeme.org and if it moves you and interests you, review how you can support this interesting project.

I also tell you that on my page we already have the Amaoir section with capsules from Dr. Gonzalo Corvera, a doctor specializing in otoneurology. In Mexico. He is one of the first to begin performing operations to place cochlear implants in adults, adolescents, and children. It is currently the one that has carried out the most operations in our country.

The AMAOIR Foundation, which he chairs, supports implant candidates

cochlear disorders to get donations, gives important family counseling as well as verbal therapies.

Hearing impairment is an invisible and little understood disability.

What is lost is the ability to understand spoken language and to be able to

communicate with the other person in that language.

There are many causes for which a person can lose their hearing, it can be

lose at birth or during their lifetime. And there are many ways to communicate when living with a hearing disability, the option of oralization with the help of technology, that is, hearing aids or a cochlear implant and the support of language therapies or the use of Mexican sign language in both options is It is extremely important to involve the whole family 100% to support each other and understand how to communicate with the person living with the disability.

It is important to emphasize that in this podcast we cover all types of hearing disabilities and that is why we have an LSM interpreter, a complete transcription of the episode on the website and subtitles on the YT channel. Well, it is so that everyone can enjoy each of the trips, which is why it also has accessible and inclusive navigation, unique in our country.

We want this project to reach a lot of people to achieve the goal, so it is extremely important that you subscribe to the youtube channel, activate the notification bell at https://youtube.com/@realidadalternativaincluyente all together and with lowercase letters, which make comments on the page and share this project with all your people, the more it grows, the more we can help and that is what interests us the most in RA.

Now if you like to cook, click on the button and if not, keep traveling.

Here I present the Amaoir section. I am sure that you will learn extremely useful and interesting things about hearing impairment.

VIDEO DOCTOR:

dr: It is not convenient to put anything in the ear, the ear has a natural mechanism to push everything out, the wax that forms inside is expelled, so you must clean it when it is already outside. If you put anything, many times what you manage is to push it back and then they start to block.

Interviewer: Are the cotton swabs with the cotton stick not good either, or are they used to clean the ear or do they have to be used frequently?

dr: No, you shouldn’t use them because you’re cleaning blindly, there’s a lot of risk of hurting yourself, I have a whole collection of every time someone pierces their ear with a q.tip I just write down the circumstances of the accident.

I want to thank Fabiola Ruiz Bedolla, our Mexican Sign Language interpreter, and her entire team of collaborators, as well as a very special thanks to Mercedes Obregón, director of the Pedagogical Institute for Language Problems, IPPLIAP. Hallstatt, Austria

The most beautiful city in Europe

In today’s episode we are going to tour the city that seems to come out of the tales of the Grimm brothers since it gives away magic and fantasy, we arrived at Hallstatt in Austria, accompanied by our guide Fabiola, an interpreter of Mexican Sign Language and before flying with the power of imagination and being able to enjoy this tour, I want to tell you that what we are looking for in this podcast is first of all to create a community that helps and to be able to raise funds so that people with hearing problems have the help they need. episode transcription

Hello, I am glad to greet you, I am Yael Yancelson and today we fly quickly with the power of imagination and the senses to the source of inspiration for the fictional kingdom of Arendelle from the saga of the famous film Frozen, if we arrive in Hallstatt in Austria, so breathe, give me your hand, let me guide you and let’s start!!

Just over an hour from Salzburg, Austria. We arrived at what many have classified as the most beautiful town in the world, what do you think? Hallstatt really looks like a postcard, don’t you think?

It is forbidden to use cars, only residents can do it, so we will look for a place to leave the car on the outskirts of town and we will do the tour on foot, as we like so much!

To start this trip, we are going to take the funicular and go up to the skywalk, which is a viewpoint at the top of one of the alpine mountains and from where we can appreciate this beautiful landscape. And here we also find the oldest salt mine in the world. At the entrance they give us a kind of shelter to protect us. If you are claustrophobic I recommend you stay outside, but if not, it is well worth entering and living the experience !

Some data show that the exploitation of this salt mine began 7000 years ago, since then and until recently it has been the economic engine of the region. Following our way to the salt mine, a small building is located with the skeletal remains of the older ancient found in the year 1000 a.c. who is known as the salt man, as well as a small church and an archaeological center. Once well into the mine there are several interpretation rooms that explain, among other things, the geological origin of the mine, as well as everything related to anthropology. The story of the discovery of an eight-meter-long wooden ladder which is considered the oldest in Europe and used to access the mine, as well as a fist-thick rope, caught my attention. Both instruments were intact and preserved by the salt. The most fun part of the visit to the salt mine comes with the slides that are used to go down to the lower floors without having to go down the uncomfortable stairs. It is undoubtedly the great attraction of the tour! Finally, a cogwheel train takes us outside the mine through a long tunnel that seems to have no end. Without a doubt, an experience difficult to forget and highly recommended, what did you think?

We go for a walk and each place or corner that you discover seems more beautiful than the previous one. Its wooden houses, with peaked roofs and balconies make you fall in love as soon as you enter the place.

Before reaching the center, the Hallstatt Museum is located, where objects related to the exploitation of its famous salt mines dating back to the Bronze Age are exhibited, as we have already seen.

Let’s walk to reach the town square, the Marktplatz, the heart of Hallstatt. We will see the stone fountain in the central area and the Lutheran church that dates from 1861 and is located right there in front of the corner.

Look how several piers are located on the shores of the lake and let’s take photos because the views of the mountains are simply spectacular! Here we can rent a small boat and row for a while among swans.

Before reaching Gosaümuhlstrasee we will see a beautiful Waldbachstrub waterfall and do some trekking. This tour is for total enjoyment when appreciating nature, it is undoubtedly a town to breathe, feel, observe and enjoy without rushing or itineraries.

And that is how we leave this beautiful and interesting region of the planet with the desire to return. We will travel every week to another corner of this wonderful world, to discover, enjoy and fly with our imagination, I wait for you every Friday and I ask you if you like me Share the content with your friends and give me a like and a review of your comments because with that you help me a lot to raise the ranking of this podcast, ALTERNATIVE REALITY A UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT SPACE THAT CREATES COMMUNITY. communicate with the other person in that language.

There are many causes for which a person can lose their hearing, it can be

lose at birth or during their lifetime.

You may have listened, spoken, and then lost that ability because you didn’t hear.

For this reason there are two different options for people with this

disability:

  1. Learn to listen or do it again with the support of technology, that is,

the use of hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, supported by a

therapy according to your needs

  1. Learn the sign language of your community as a first language,

It is therefore important that all hearing impaired people and their

relatives know both options.

The most important thing is respect and understanding that with or without devices, with oral or sign language, all are people with hearing disabilities and this podcast is focused on the entire spectrum, which is why we have an LSM interpreter, subtitles and transcription .

Also known as Fetta di Polenta due to its geometry, this building designed by the architect Alessandro Antonelli is one of the most curious pieces of architecture in the city, from there we went to an old working-class neighborhood from the late 19th century, Via Giulia di Barolo, where there is the Mau, the first open-air Italian Museum of Contemporary Art in an urban center. What’s it like to walk through an art settlement with 140 works of street art? I found that in Turin there is a new way of consuming, the Green Pea project turns out to be the first ecological shopping center in the world. 72 shops designed to maximize levels of sustainability while respecting the harmony of nature, extremely interesting, right?

Did you know that the aperitif was invented in Turin? Yes, in 1787 a certain Antonio Benedetto Carpano invented vermouth and, since then, the moment of the aperitif – from 6 to 9 in the evening more or less – has become increasingly important in Turin and has spread to the rest of Italy.

episode transcription

Hi, I’m glad to greet you, I’m Yael Yancelson and today we’re flying quickly with the power of imagination and senses to the capital of Norway, the city of Oslo, which is undoubtedly one of the most restless and interesting cities in Europe. that breathes, close your eyes if possible and you are not doing anything else, give me your hand and let yourself be guided, let’s begin!

Remember that Realidad Alternativa is a project that comes from the heart, with the idea of being inclusive and in solidarity with people who live with hearing disabilities, who have taught us that this space can be enjoyed in very different ways and that is why you can review it at the platform of your choice, remember that we already have a Mexican Sign Language interpreter and on our page, you can have accessible navigation and adjust it to your needs by clicking on the disability icon, all this so that you can enjoy each tour to the fullest and also that we will know different causes throughout each episode to help and give something in return on this wonderful planet. With its interesting Viking past, Oslo, which was a logistic and political center, has become in recent years a vibrant destination in which art, music, and architecture are surprising with their exuberance and modernity. Look around you and you will appreciate it!! !!

The first thing we can see when we arrive at Oslo Central Station is the main street Karl Johans Gate, which runs through the heart of the city. In this almost two kilometers long avenue, we see the Cathedral (17th century), the Central Market, let’s see buildings from the 19th century and early 20th century that house important institutions such as the Parliament and the University later we will see the National Theater in the one feels the presence of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, author of A Doll’s House (1879), whose museum is located a few streets away and we can also visit.

We walk through the beautiful Royal Palace in the parallel Kristian IV Gate where the Historical Museum and the National Gallery are located. The first contains antiquities, ethnographic objects, and Viking ornaments such as the Hon Treasure (9th century), the largest found in Scandinavia. The Gallery is the largest art gallery in the country, where the most important Norwegian art up to World War II is exhibited, with masterpieces such as Munch’s most famous Scream.

A ten-minute walk from the center is the Rådhusbrygge Wharf, which is presided over by the City Hall, a building from 1950 where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded every year.

Directly opposite, where the shipyards used to be, Aker Brygge represents one of Oslo’s new entertainment areas. It is always lively thanks to shopping malls and numerous bars and restaurants that offer salmon and cod stews so we can stop and enjoy a bit. In recent years, the cultural offer has expanded with the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, the work of the architect Renzo Piano. There are also novelties on the opposite side of Aker Brygge, where the peninsula extends that dominates the Akershus fortress, of medieval origin, although converted in the 17th century into a Renaissance palace. There the new Museum of Norwegian Architecture and the National Museum of Contemporary Art are erected.

Now let’s walk along Rådhusgata Street, one of the longest and most elegant in Oslo, bounded to the north by the Akerhus peninsula and connected to Biørvika, another old port district that today has become a benchmark for 21st-century Oslo, the main protagonist is Without a doubt, the very spectacular building of the Oslo Opera, which was completed in 2008, which is a reflection of the most avant-garde Norway and we have to walk on the roof to complete the experience! From the top of the building you have the best panoramic views of this very modern area of the city and its new buildings, so let’s take advantage of taking several pictures!

And if you are a fan of winter sports, immersed in a large forest on the side of a mountain that borders the city, you have an essential appointment with the imposing Holmenkollen ski jumping stadium. The impressive Holmenkollen jump has a structure of 69 meters high built from 1200 tons of steel. Despite the fact that the track has more than 120 years of history, it has been reformed up to 18 times and the current track is a modern version that was installed in 2010. Located at the base of the jumping track, the Museum de Esquí was founded in 1923 to narrate 4000 years of the history of skiing, including exhibitions on the evolution of the Olympic Games throughout history, or the materials used for the Nadsen and Amundsen polar expeditions.

Enjoying the landscape and the fjord aboard a traditional sailboat is a beautiful experience to admire the Bygdøy peninsula and navigate the network of canals that extend almost to the center of the city and we can also try a delicious buffet of fresh shrimp from the area!!!

And now with the power of imagination, we will travel more than a thousand years into the past to see the ships of the 9th century in the Viking Ship Museum

After touring the waterfront, it is worth taking a bus, tram, or metro to the east of the city, where a multi-ethnic neighborhood is located that concentrates much of the nightlife. It also highlights the Gamlebyen (Old Town) enclosure, located where medieval Oslo was located and today you walk between half-timbered houses and cobbled streets.

I love this area full of street music, alternative pubs, exhibitions by local artists… The Grünerløkka neighborhood is the most modern area of Oslo and an excellent district to get to know the other side of the capital. During the 19th century, large factories and houses for workers began to be built to the northwest of Oslo, giving rise to the Grünerløkka neighborhood. Its proximity to the Akerselva River led to the expansion of industry in this district and it soon became a working-class area. As the Industrial Revolution passed, the neighborhood became a residential area for working-class families. In this environment, the young Edvard Munch was born and raised. Visiting Grünerløkka is like traveling back to the childhood of the famous Norwegian artist, and although the houses where Munch lived cannot be visited, the buildings still maintain their original façade. Throughout the 20th century, the neighborhood underwent a strong transformation and became the main center of urban art that, as you know, I really enjoy because it gives an interesting vision of the daily pulse that is lived in each city. The streets of the neighborhood were filled with graffiti and murals, vintage clothing stores opened on the main avenues, and the neighborhood was filled with street musicians.

Currently, Grünerløkka is a benchmark for nightlife and a party area, so enjoy the atmosphere!

Hello, I am glad to greet you, I am Yael Yancelson, and today we are going to a really beautiful destination, full of history and tradition, we are flying quickly with the power of imagination and the senses to Seville, Spain, so breathe, close your eyes if it is possible and you are not doing anything else, give me your hand and let yourself be guided, we begin!

The history of Seville dates back to the 8th century BC, when the city was founded by the Tartessos, on high ground next to the Guadalquivir river. Later, the Greeks, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans would arrive; The latter would have command of the city, now called “Hispalis”, until the year 711 AD, when it was conquered by the Muslims. During that Roman period, the city enjoyed great splendor and growth. After the Romans, Seville was taken by the Visigoths who were there for 200 years, until Musa and his son Abd al-Aziz ibn Mussa crossed the waters of Gibraltar and took the city of Hispalis, in the year 713. At that time it was baptized with the Arabic name Isbiliya, which underwent mutations, passing through Ixbilia, Sivilia, up to Seville, as we know it today.

Seville became the most important city of Al-Andalus (the name given to the Iberian Peninsula as a province of the Muslim empire) and became its capital. At this time it grew culturally and architecturally, adopting the form that we can still see today in its historic center. Some of the most beautiful constructions that we are going to visit in the city today date from this period: La Giralda, the Alcázar, the Macarena walls, the Torre del Oro, and the Triana neighborhood.

Today Seville is a modern city with excellent infrastructure, but it still preserves its spectacular historical legacy, the product of the passage of numerous civilizations. This very thing has given it a unique identity and makes it a destination that must be visited at least once as it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Spain.

What if before starting to walk we had some delicious churros with chocolate at Bar El Comercio or Churrería San Pablo and walked to the Cathedral of Seville, declared a World Heritage Site and the largest Gothic temple in the world, you have to admire its impressive façade, before going inside to see the fantastic Main Altarpiece, the Patio de los Naranjos and the tomb of Christopher Columbus, and then climb to the top of its famous Giralda. The guide has told us that it is believed that the Seville Cathedral began to be built in the year 1401 after the demolition of the Aljama Mosque of Seville, built by order of the Almohad caliph Abu Yacub Jusuf, of which the remains remain today. minaret, which is the current Giralda, and the patio, which is the Patio de los Naranjos.

As curiosities, it is important to know that one of the first architects of the Cathedral of Seville was Charles Galter of Normandy, and the temple rests the mortal remains of Christopher Columbus and some kings of Castilla. Look inside the central nave we find the Choir, where you can see several organs and spectacular stalls in addition to the Main Chapel, in which the Renaissance bars that can be seen on the front stand out, as well as the vaults that are the highest in the Cathedral with 37 meters.

If you like, when leaving the cathedral, we continue to the Alcázar of Seville, a walled palace that went from the residence of caliphs to that of Christian kings, where you cannot miss seeing the jewels, wow look how opulent!!! let’s go to see its different patios and halls, as well as relax for a while in its beautiful gardens while we listen to the guide who tells us the history of this place in 914 when the Caliph of Córdoba, Abderramán III, ordered the construction of a citadel in the city, which in part, took advantage of the old city walls.

Later, when the Abadi dynasty took the city after the fall of the caliphate, the previous Alcazaba began to undergo different extensions, among which the 11th-century one stands out, with which its original extension was practically doubled.

In addition, the interiors also began to be modified and expanded, building different buildings until, in the 12th century, the Almohads decided to carry out a complete reform, raising the interior with new and larger palaces, creating a new system of walls for defensive purposes, which They ended in the 13th century with the construction of the Torre del Oro that we are admiring. Later, by order of Alfonso X, the Gothic palace was built in the main area of the citadel so that, after the earthquake of 1356, Pedro I built the impressive el Mudejar palace.

It is Queen Elizabeth I who, after seeing the deterioration of the building, decides to order a major restoration.

We walked to see the main gate of the Reales Alcázares, located in a part of the outer wall, formerly also known as the Monteria since according to what they say, this was the gate that the king used when he went hunting with the huntsmen. Behind the Puerta del León and just opposite, is the Patio de la Montería separated by part of the inner wall area.

What if we now go to the Santa Cruz neighborhood starting with Plaza de Santa María and Calle Mateos Gago with views of the Giralda? During the tour, we will pass through places like Casa de Salinas, Calle Mesón del Moro, the old synagogue, and now Church of Santa María la Blanca, until you stop at the tourist Calle Cruces which has a spectacular atmosphere!!! Let’s end up in the Plaza de España, which seems monumental to me, and you. After touring the interior of its porticoed galleries and crossing some of the canal bridges, we cannot leave the square without taking a picture sitting on the tiled bench that represents your province!!!! At sunset we have time to take a romantic walk along the banks of the Guadalquivir to the Isabel II Bridge, to see how the Torre del Oro is reflected in the river, and we will dine on some good tapas at Bar Triana or at the nearby winery Sun and Shadow if that’s okay with you!!!

nearby Sol y Sombra winery if that’s okay with you!!!

And that is how we leave this beautiful and interesting region of the planet with the desire to return. We will travel every week to another corner of this wonderful world, to discover, enjoy and fly with our imagination, I wait for you every Friday and I ask you if you like me Share the content with your friends and give me a like and a review of your comments because with that, as I told you at the beginning, we can help people who live with hearing disabilities to get aids, implants and or therapies necessary to achieve a better quality of life. that is the mission of this project because ALTERNATIVE REALITY is A UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT SPACE THAT CREATES COMMUNITY. Hello, I am glad to greet you, I am Yael Yancelson and today we are going to a vibrant city full of history, tradition, and a lot to see. We arrive in London in the United Kingdom, so breathe, close your eyes and let yourself be guided, we begin.

London is the capital and largest city of the United Kingdom. Located on the banks of the River Thames, London has been an important human settlement since it was founded by the Romans almost two millennia ago.

As you surely know, there are too many interesting things to see in this important city in the United Kingdom, but today what strikes me the most is going to places that I really enjoy exploring on foot and enjoy without rushing itineraries.

So we start this tour in one of the most popular and crowded squares in London, TRAFALGAR SQUARE, and the first thing we see there in front of us is the imposing monument that recalls the victory of the British crown against the French and Spanish, Date of the year 1830 and was built to commemorate a very famous battle to which the square also owes its name.

The Battle of Trafalgar was decisive in European history because it involved the defeat of Napoleonic supremacy on the continent and the beginning of its decline. The British Crown thus managed to stop the advance and conquests of Napoleon Bonaparte’s Empire.

This corner is characterized by marking the beginning of SoHo, where the most varied commercial life in all of London is concentrated. In Trafalgar Square, we can also visit the National Gallery where we will find an important collection of paintings and sculptures ranging from the mid-13th century to the 19th century.

We continue walking and enter the area known as Soho and there is something extremely curious here, it happens that we can find 7 noses on the walls and legend has it that if you find them all you will never have money problems again. That’s right!: you can’t look at their locations on the map; you have to find them on your own. It is also said that the mold comes from the nose of Rick Buckley, a relevant artist in the British sphere. This peculiar London attraction was designed by Tim Fishlock, a prestigious London artist, who wanted to give the landscape a small human trait to offer a new look at the city. He then designed several life-size ears and noses and distributed them throughout the city. It is a very curious neighborhood to walk around, with a very different atmosphere from other streets in London, don’t you think? London’s Soho is a center of entertainment, a very varied area with a lot of shops, offices, bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants, clubs, live music which I have enjoyed a lot, and cabarets. We have been highly recommended to go for a walk at night because when the sun goes down the streets turn red, very special.

From there, nothing better than going to my favorite place in this city, which is CAMDEN TOWN.

I love how the entire neighborhood is full of shops, tattoo studios, restaurants, and markets with stalls selling curious objects. Visiting Camden will allow you to experience an alternative environment full of life where we can find the best souvenirs. If you are a person who loves gothic clothing, in these stores you will find thousands of items according to your tastes. If you don’t like the style, don’t be afraid, it is a perfect place to see articles of all kinds and you will surely find something that fascinates you; You don’t even need to buy as the experience of walking around the area makes it worthwhile to simply enjoy the walk. Look at the decoration of the buildings, doesn’t it all have a unique personality and style? As we walk along the main avenue, we will arrive at the different markets and the area near Regent’s Canal where there are thousands of food stalls; one of the most famous attractions in Camden.

This industrial zone housed the nest of the distilleries of some of the best gins in the world and also gave shelter to the manufacturers of soft drinks. The 1960s marked the most significant change in the neighborhood since it was when the cultural revolution began. Rock and psychedelia became fashionable among young people; and music, culture, and politics marked a before and after in the area. Camden Market did not begin to be a market until 1974 when the first merchants appeared. The neighborhood has been home to famous people like Amy Winehouse, which is why we find alternative venues and the best nightclubs in the city. The Stables Market is a market located inside some old stables. These stables date back to when the Camden neighborhood was an industrial commodity zone. Horses were used to extract parts and material goods from trains. The stables, apart from being the area where the animals rested, also contained a horse hospital. Currently, the shops are located between the tunnels and arcades of the old stables. At these stalls, we find a mix of shops selling homewares, food, alternative clothing, and antiques.

The Camden Market sells fashionable clothes for all tastes, in which you are sure to find something that you like. In the past, the distilleries were located in this area. Camden Lock Market has more jewelry, antiques, and crafts, as well as takeaway stalls; This area was where the first merchants began to market their products. The Inverness flea market specializes in shoe and souvenir shops where fruit shops used to be.

We have to enter CYBER DOG here, this alternative and psychedelic store is located in the heart of Camden, specifically in Stables Market. Look how at the entrance of the store there are two huge metal statues in the shape of a futuristic robot and the interior is decorated with neon lights as if you were entering a ship. The store specializes in futuristic fashion and neon clothing. While we walk looking at the curious objects, we can find gogos dancing and music at full volume. A fun way to buy, right?

Then let’s go to the CAMDEN ARTS CENTER, an art gallery that concentrates on exhibitions of contemporary art and seeks in a very original way to involve the visitor in the ideas and processes of today’s artists. Finally, how about we take a boat ride THROUGH THE REGENT’S CANAL that was built to link the River Thames with a huge branch for the transport of goods. Nowadays it goes through parks, the London Zoo, and Camden. It is without a doubt a quiet and picturesque walk that I enjoy taking to escape the urban hustle and bustle.

Here it is already the famous tea time so if you like to cook click on the button or if you prefer  keep traveling.

And that is how we leave this beautiful and interesting region of the planet with the desire to return. We will travel every week to another corner of this wonderful world, to discover, enjoy and fly with the imagination, I wait for you every Friday and I ask you if you like me to share the content with your friends and give me a like and a review of your comments because with that you help me a lot to raise the ranking of this podcast, ALTERNATIVE REALITY A UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT SPACE THAT CREATES COMMUNITY. Hello, I am glad to greet you, I am Yael Yancelson and today we are going on a trip to a beautiful and quiet European city, Bern in Switzerland, so breathe, close your eyes and let yourself be guided, we begin.

Welcome to what is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland.

Bern was founded in 1191, it is crossed by the river Aare, which has led to the construction of numerous bridges that connect the old city with the new one and I am amazed at the great conservation of its medieval architecture. I say that it is definitely a city to explore on foot to be able to wander through its streets and they tell us that the best way to get an idea of what we will visit and locate where all its attractions are is to start at its most outstanding viewpoint, the Rosengarten, which is a place full of life where at the end of the day many Bernese gathers to enjoy the beautiful sunset that falls over the old city and you can admire more than two hundred varieties of roses in its garden and green areas with tables where you can enjoy a time of calm and relaxation.

From there we go to Kramgasse Street, which is the main street of the historic center and one of the essential things to see in Bern. It is a joy to walk along this wide avenue with centuries-old buildings decorated with flags. There is a wide variety of shops and cafes, as well as bars, small concert halls, and alternative theaters or famous puppets.

Let’s keep walking and we arrive at one of the coolest and most fashionable neighborhoods in Bern this Marzili neighborhood: Half-hipster cafes, terraces, and alternative places. In addition, it has the most famous pool in the capital, with large green areas, and absolutely free. It has several swimming pools with trampolines and slides, including direct access to the Aare river, where if it’s not too cold we can swim,

Did you know that Bern is also called “the city of fountains” this is due to its ten fountains with various sculptures that are scattered throughout the old city and in particular along its main street. Most of them were built during the Renaissance. The theme of these fountains is quite varied: animals, allegorical, and biblical figures,… although the most unique is the Ogre Fountain (Kindlifresser), which eats children, how scary hahaha. On the outskirts of the center, we can find more than a hundred fountains built between the 17th and 18th centuries.

I am really enjoying the walk through the historic center, looking at the facades of its buildings and the beautiful arcades. Getting lost in its streets is in itself the best way to get to know this medieval city and we see the cathedral of Berne in front of us, which is the tallest building in Switzerland (100.6 m). It is also the most important work carried out in late Gothic in the country that began to be built in 1421, although it was not completed until 1893 when the tower was completed with a second half in neo-Gothic style. Since 1983 it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Bern’s Old Town.

After a visit to the cathedral, I recommend you climb its tower to enjoy incredible views of the city. You will also be able to see its nine bells, including the largest in Switzerland, weighing almost 1 ton. Of course, you will have to climb 344 steps! So let’s grab strength!!!

Now we go to The emblematic Clock Tower, the Zytglogge, which was the first west gate of the city of Bern and began to be built in 1191 and was completed in 1256. Its first function, apart from the main clock of the city, was as a prison for women until the fire of 1405. Below is the astronomical clock that indicates the position of the Sun, the phase of the Moon, and the current zodiac sign.

Its Swiss name literally means “Bell Tower of the Hour”. The clock was installed later, specifically in the 16th century, and 4 minutes before each hour the ornamental figures next to it start moving. How nice to see! !!

Albert Einstein arrived in Bern in 1902 where he began to work in the Confederation’s patent office. The following year he moved in with his wife in an apartment on the second floor of 49 Kramgasse and today the apartment is open to the public as a museum, so let’s go inside to see how they preserved the period furniture and look, there’s documentation on Einstein’s life in Bern. It’s interesting to know that this time coincided with Einstein’s Wonder Years, during which he wrote a series of papers that contributed substantially to the foundation of modern physics while working at the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property. He developed some of his fundamental and revolutionary theories, including the theory of relativity and his equation E=mc 2. In 1908 he obtained his doctorate from the University of Bern, where he became a professor of theoretical physics. In 1909, he became one of the most famous physicists of mankind, obtaining the chair of theoretical physics at the University of Zurich.

The living conditions of Einstein and his family are accurately shown in the second-floor apartment, decorated with period furniture. Einstein’s biography and different documents about his life and work are exhibited on the third floor.

A larger permanent exhibition is in the Bern History Museum. What do you think about it? Interesting don’t you think?

And after so much walking I got hungry, right?

So if you like to cook click on the button or if you prefer to keep traveling.

If you want to know what the Include Me Foundation does for the labor and social integration of people living with intellectual disabilities, go to the link: www. incluyeme.org and if you are moved and interested, check how you can support this interesting project.

Until next week and thanks for traveling with me!!

Swiss cuisine is often associated with cheeses and in particular, Emmental, Gruyere, Vacherin, and Appenzeller, all of which form an essential part of the famous raclette and fondues. Raclette is a dish originating from the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Raclette consists of eating the melted cheese of the same name, accompanying sausages, meats, pickles, and boiled potatoes. In the past, Swiss shepherds melted the cheese by bringing the form closer to the fire, where they also roasted the potatoes. Then when the cheese on the surface was melted, they scraped it with an iron instrument and spread it on the potatoes and some sausage. The name of the dish derives from this way of preparation: it comes from the French verb racler, which means to scratch.

Today, electrical appliances are used for their preparation. In addition to cheese, the traditional ingredients for raclette are roasted or boiled potatoes whole and with skin, sausages, meat cut into strips, and ham. But since cooking is also an innovation, it is very common to add vegetables to cook on the grill or on skewers: peppers, asparagus, courgette, aubergines, onions, tomatoes, etc. In Switzerland, the dish is accompanied by hot drinks such as tea, or a light white wine.

But of course, the fundamental ingredient is the raclette cheese that we will buy at the local market. Raclette is a semi-hard, extra-fat cheese made with raw cow’s milk. Legend has it that it was a viticulturist named León who invented the dish on a cold winter night, although written sources certify this custom as far back as the 16th century.

If you like to buy an electrical appliance, I will leave you a link in the description of the episode on my YouTube page and right here with my affiliate code so that you can receive it at the door of your house and enjoy this delicious recipe with your family!

Hello, I am glad to greet you, I am Yael Yancelson and today we are going to a historical and really beautiful place, we fly with the power of imagination to the interesting city of Dubrovnik in Croatia, so breathe, close your eyes and let yourself be guided, we begin.

An intense shine of emerald and sapphire tones in the water welcomes us on the coast of Croatia, between the Balkans and central Europe. Shadow of ancient walled cities, these lands have passed between kingdoms, empires, and rival republics for centuries, contributing to the rich legacy culture that it has left in its wake. Venetian palaces next to Napoleonic forts, Roman columns jutting out of early Slavic churches, or Viennese mansions in front of socialist sculptures.

Here we find excellent museums that house treasures that cover all of European history, from prehistory to post-communism, showing a journey that is both fascinating and terrible.

The limestone karst has created an incredible landscape of incredibly picturesque peaks, caverns, canyons, waterfalls, and lakes. Look how beautiful!!! The more active can explore this part on foot and by bicycle, greatly enjoying the many trails, while the more adventurous can go climbing, rafting, or zip-lining, which is just what I will do right now!

Let’s go to the most popular destination in Croatia, the walled city of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite being relentlessly bombed in the 1990s during the Croatian War, its imposing walls and towers, medieval monasteries, baroque churches, squares, and fascinating residential neighborhoods have regained their magnificence. To get a good view of the entire “pearl of the Adriatic”, how about we take the funicular up to Mount Srđ and then go around the walls and spy on the hidden gardens and ancient streets?

Dubrovnik (ancient Ragusa) is the capital of the Dubrovnik-Neretva county. It is located 495 km from the Croatian capital, Zagreb, 340 km from Zadar, and 216 km from Split. The word Dubrovnik means Oak Grove, a name that describes the number of trees of this type that existed in the area. The city of Dubrovnik was dominated by the Byzantines, Venetians, Hungarians, and Turks. In 1272 it was directed by an aristocratic government reaching its maximum splendor in European trade, one of its star products was silver alloyed with gold, called glama. The decline of Dubrovnik has its origin when in 1667 an earthquake struck the city. It later became the property of Austria.

We arrive at the old town of Dubrovnik, notice how it is surrounded by a hundred-year-old wall and we enter through the Pile gate, the most frequented entrance to the old city. Undoubtedly, fans of the award-winning television series, Game of Thrones, are in luck, since guided tours of the settings that were part of the filming can now be taken. In fact, they tell us that some of the guides have participated as extras in the series, so our lucky guide Mirko has the information firsthand.

From the Pile Gate, we can begin this experience, close our eyes and imagine that we are in the Capital of the Seven Kingdoms, it will help us to see from the walls the magnificent fortress of Lovrijenac, the Red Fortress in fiction, a bastion of the XI century that appears in numerous scenes of the saga, and that is on the Blackwater Bay, where the intense battle of the same name takes place.

Look right in front of me, there is Placa street, also known as the Stradun, the artery that connects the Pile gate with Luza square. At the beginning of the street, is the Franciscan monastery. In the background, you can see a bell tower and two palaces. In the middle, the buildings, all made of stone, on Placa Street and a surprisingly shiny floor due to the stones polished by millions of steps.

The first part of the walls leads to the part closest to the sea. Halfway through the route, we reach the area of the old port. We see the cobbled alleys and cross next to the Rectoral Palace and, passing by the Dominican monastery, we begin to climb again.

Now we walk over the roofs of Dubrovnik. You manage to appreciate how the city dyed the red of its tiles. In Plaza Luza we see the portico of the church of San Blas, the patron saint of the city. Further back, the Cathedral of the Assumption. In the background, the Adriatic Sea frames the landscape.

Our guide tells us about the Rectors’ Palace (Knežev dvor), which was the seat of government and the rector in the days when Dubrovnik was an independent republic, and the spectacular Velika Gospa Cathedral, which was built in 1192.

We arrive at the Onofrio Fountain, which has a circular shape and was built in the 15th century to commemorate the end of the construction work of the new aqueduct that served to provide the city with water from the Riieka Dubrovacka fountain. Drinking and fresh water comes out of the mouths of the sculpted figures

Now let’s change the scene and go to the Gradska Plaza beach “city beach” which is located next to the Lazaretto, behind the Ploce Gate. The beaches in Dubrovnik are usually thick sand as the area is very steep and rocky. We can enjoy many other beaches by moving to other places very close. We will do it by ferry to the island of Lokrum, this beauty is called a National Park, we will see the ruins of a Benedictine monastery, as well as the Botanical Garden, and a beautiful rocky beach that, beware, is for nudists, I hope you do not feel uncomfortable.

And an adventure in the waters of the Adriatic Sea is this kayak tour that we are going to take. We start the tour in Pile Bay, which is located at the foot of the Lovrijenac Fortress. We row around Lokrum, making several stops to rest and listen to stories about the area. We pass through the Lokrum caves while floating deliciously in the crystal clear waters and this serves to disconnect you from all thoughts in this paradisiacal environment, seize the moment!

Let’s rest in the cave of Betina, right on the beach on the east side. Here, we can go back to swimming, diving, and cliff jumping.

Once dry, we continue exploring and arrive at the Lapad neighborhood, which is located in the western part of Dubrovnik, under Mount Petka. This is where most of the hotels are located, it is called Babin Kuk. Its Gothic constructions are very beautiful, don’t you think so? We find in addition to the Church of the Virgen de la Misericordia, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Modern History

If what you want is to enjoy the nightlife, nothing better than going to Calle Prijeco, full of terraces with a very chic atmosphere where you can listen to Jazz music, among other styles; festivals like the Dubrovnik Summer Festival are held every year.

If you start hearing cries of Jedi! Jedi! Jedi!” (“Eat, eat, eat!”), are the residents of the area and sharing food and drink is one of the great cultural traits of Croatia, which is explained by the hospitable nature of its people and by the quality of its products. Family taverns prepare simple home cooking and there are hundreds of restaurants of all kinds in the Old Town area.

And after so much activity, the truth is that I was already very hungry, so if you like to cook, I think it is time to prepare our ingredients to go to the kitchen and make a very typical Ston cake, click on the button or if you prefer, keep traveling.

Hello, I am glad to greet you, I am Yael Yancelson and today we will discover a charming region in Turkey called Ayvalik, so breathe, close your eyes and let yourself be guided, let’s begin…

After a long journey, we arrive at Ayvalik, a charming Turkish fishing port bathed by the Aegean Sea and surrounded by olive trees and pine forests that have undoubtedly been able to adapt to the arrival of tourists without losing their identity.

We walk through its labyrinthine streets that fuse Greek and Cretan cultures; this town has approximately 37,000 people.

The truth is that I really wanted to visit this town because I saw it in a series that I don’t know if you know, it’s on Netflix, it’s called my other self and it’s a series that invites us to know what family constellations are, it’s an extremely interesting series, which strikes a chord with those of us who are familiar or not with the work that is done in a constellation with what we bring from the family’s emotional baggage, I highly recommend it and Ayvialik is the setting for the series and for that I decided to visit and grab our bags and travel with the imagination to this paradisiacal place,

What a delight the Mediterranean climate is, can you appreciate the heat and the delicious sea breeze??? and we will also enjoy the view that makes its transparent waters shine. This is an excellent starting point to discover the more than twenty islands that make up its archipelago.

Ayvalık, one of the prettiest towns in the North Aegean, is made up of vine-covered stone houses in soft pastel hues leading to a bustling harbor, where fishing boats mingle with excursion boats and yachts.

We cannot miss the huge and lively market of Nese Sokak, where we can enjoy an authentic vibe of local life and see all these beautiful handicrafts as typical as the famous Turkish eyes, the mini bells, and the necklaces of the ladybugs, look how many there are nice things to buy!!!

Many of the Ayvalik mosques are former Greek Orthodox churches, the locals of this region have told us that after the disappearance of the Greek population, the churches were converted into Islamic temples and are now one of the main points of interest for tourists. We arrive at the Feyzipasa neighborhood and enter the Saatli or Clock Mosque, the second largest in Ayvaliken, which was built in the second half of the 19th century and converted to the Muslim creed in 1928. Look at the construction and the interior and You will see how it preserves all the original details, except for the pictorial images. The clock tower, from which it takes its name, measures 24 meters, while the minaret reaches a length of 44 meters. Let’s walk on Alibey Street in the Hamdibey neighborhood, to reach the old town and we find the Çinarli, a formidable neoclassical building built in 1790 and transformed into a mosque in 1923. Look at its pink painted facade, with a minaret of about 40 meters high, and each one of the ornamental details catches my attention, what do you think?

We pass through the main square and see the Izindeyiz Atam monument which reflects the history of Ayvalik and the country in general. It was made in honor of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder and first president of modern Turkey. We are told that the monument was built in 1922 when the Turkish forces recaptured the city during the war of independence. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire to the Allies during World War I, Atatürk led the Turkish National Movement which aimed to liberate the Turkish-speaking territories of the former Empire. To carry out his resistance movement against the occupying armies, he relied on the people, including women and children. After his victory, he was proclaimed president and agreed with the Greek government on the massive exchange of the Greek population of Turkey for the Turkish population of Greece. In Ayvalik, most of the new inhabitants came from Crete, Macedonia, and Mytilene.

Getting lost in the old town is the best way to appreciate all the charm of this small town on the shores of the Aegean Sea. And that’s how we pass through an old Ottoman bazaar, cobbled streets with Greek-style houses with neoclassical architecture and they call my attention to the works of stone and wood on its facades. How about we stop by one of the city’s markets, which are famous for their dairy products, the traditional Kepekli bread, and the great quality of their olive oil. I’m going to buy one to take home because it’s really delicious! ! near the ferries that leave for the island of Cunda, we can also buy the freshest product you can imagine at the fish market!

What a beautiful sunset we see from Seytan Sofrasi, which translated into Spanish means “devil’s table”. Located about eight kilometers from the city center, on top of a hill, we see a spectacular intense blue sea. Legend has it that the devil came to this place in search of beauty similar to that of the paradise from which he had just been expelled. During his ascent he left a mark, in which today visitors throw coins to make wishes, so as tradition dictates, let’s throw a coin and make a wish, right?

If you feel like going to the beach, let’s go to the Ayvalik coast which is home to a good number of beaches where it is worth enjoying the excellent weather and crystal clear waters with two of the longest sandy beaches in the whole country, Altinova and Sarimsakli, the latter located just 5 kilometers from the center of the city of Cunda (also called Alibey) is the largest of all the islands of the Ayvalik archipelago. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge, although during the summer months it can also be reached by boat. In the north of the island, we find the Patriça nature reserve, a highly recommended excursion if you want to admire the rich vegetation and let yourself be carried away by the nostalgia of the Greek villages abandoned for decades and now covered in wildflowers. From Ayvalik it is also possible to visit the Greek island of Lesbos, the third largest in Greece. This place is known for its beauty and for being the land of Sappho, the ancient poet who wrote love poems between women. Lesbos and Ayvalik are connected by a ferry service which we are going to use now, is that ok with you?

And now we come to ancient Pergamon, also known as the “high citadel”, as it stands on a 335-meter hill. Here it is well worth visiting the acropolis and its treasures, such as the splendid theater, the most inclined in the world, or the temples of Trajan and Demeter and we will see the remains of the library that Antony looted as a gift to his beloved Cleopatra.

Do you like to dive and take underwater pictures? Kerbela is the ideal place to do it due to its great biodiversity, with red coral, anemones, moray eels, octopuses, and even seahorses, look how incredible!!!! I love the experience of diving and enjoying marine life, wow!

And with so much travel I think it’s a good time to eat something, right? Herbs are fundamental here, as well as vegetables and olive oil, the truth is that it is fairly healthy gastronomy. The sardine and the drink known as Raki are traditional in the region.

And I return to the theme of the series of my other self because it really moved me a lot, it made me understand many things about my own life, my own baggage, and what we carry with the past that is not necessarily ours, but ours. ancestors but that is part of our limiting beliefs and our belief system and what we come to work in this world and in it they refer to a book that I highly recommend, it is called This pain is not mine by Mark Wolynn which precisely talks about That, of identifying and resolving the cultural and family traumas or baggage that have been inherited, is very interesting and I recommend it to you again.

If you like to cook, I think it’s time to prepare our ingredients to go to the kitchen and make a typical toast or Ayvalik sandwich that is consumed almost daily for lunch, click on the button, or if you prefer keep traveling.

I present the new section by Dr. Gonzalo Corvera, one of the most renowned Mexican doctors who performs cochlear implant surgery in children, adolescents and adults and with his specialty as a specialist in Otorhinolaryngology and Neuro-Otology, he cares for people who live with hearing disabilities, director of the Mexican Association for Hearing “Help us to hear” I am sure that you will learn extremely useful and interesting things about these topics.

I want to thank Fabiola Ruiz Bedolla, our Mexican Sign Language interpreter, and her entire team of collaborators, as well as a very special thanks to Mercedes Obregón, director of the Pedagogical Institute for Language Problems, IPPLIAP. Thank you for joining this project and all of you for making it possible!

And that is how we leave this beautiful and interesting region of the planet with the desire to return. We will travel every week to another corner of this wonderful world, to discover, enjoy and fly with the imagination, I wait for you every Friday and I ask you if you like to share the content with your friends and give me a like and a review of your comments because with that you help me a lot to raise the ranking of this podcast, ALTERNATIVE REALITY A UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT SPACE THAT CREATES COMMUNITY If you want to know what the INCLUDE ME foundation does, in the labor and social integration of people with mental disabilities, go to www.incluyeme.org.

Let’s go Pintxos

Hello, I am glad to greet you, I am Yael Yancelson and today we will discover the beautiful city of San Sebastián in Spain, so breathe, close your eyes and let yourself be guided, we begin…

San Sebastián is a small city on the Bay of Biscay in the mountainous Basque Country of Spain that hides unmissable corners. In the Basque language, it is called Donostia.

In the heart of the city, we are going to climb Mount Urgull to enjoy the only point of Donostia, where you can see the three beaches and observe the remains of the wall and cannons, a witness to the military past of the city. Mount Urgull is located at one of the ends of the Bay of La Concha, guarding the Old Town. It is one of the three lungs of the city, you can feel special tranquility, can you appreciate it? if you realize, we are surrounded by exotic vegetation that hides viewpoints with scenarios worthy of photography, let’s take some!

We are transported back in time because we have found the traces that the different moments of its history have left on the city. We see the fortifications and part of the wall that one day Donostia/San Sebastián embraced and that today is one of the few remaining witnesses of the war battles and sieges it suffered in the 19th century. Mount Urgull witnessed in 1794 the first capitulation of the city at the hands of the French and witnessed the fire that today is the old town that was born from the battle of the Gallic troops with the Anglo-Portuguese army that destroyed the city in 1813.

We walk through Atalaya over the sea and the city, to the top, where the impressive statue of the Sacred Heart and the fortifications and cannons of Castillo de la Mota await your arrival.

Look at this sculpture ‘Empty Construction’, created by Jorge Oteiza, which rises imposingly and defies the sea, playing with the waves every time they jump.

The work, which was awarded at the São Paulo Biennial in 1957, is today a benchmark in the world of contemporary art. And we arrive at the Aquarium, the place where the skeleton of a whale captured in the Cantabrian Sea in 1871 lies. With more than a century of history and remodeled in 2008, it is today one of the most modern aquariums in Europe.

A few meters from the Aquarium, we enter the Naval Museum, inside which we discover the history and part of the Basque maritime heritage.

And so we arrive at the picturesque fishing port of Donostia/San Sebastián where the typical fishing boats of the Basque Country rest before setting sail. It looks beautiful, right?

San Sebastián is the perfect city to get around by bicycle, so let’s take one and what do you think if we go strolling through the Old Town enjoying its famous pintxos, miniature culinary delights, and markets such as La Bretxa? Further on we pass by the Plaza de la Constitución, in the heart of the Old Town. Until the 1940s, its central building was the City Hall of Donostia / San Sebastián.

The balconies of the colorful buildings that surround it have printed numbers that take us back to its past when it was used as a bullfighting arena.

Today, however, the Plaza de la Constitución is a place full of life and the main stage for the most important local festivals.

I feel like stopping for a while for a coffee on one of the terraces of Plaza Zuloaga where the San Telmo Museum keeps the secrets of Basque culture in a safe place.

And from there we take a walk through the romantic area toward Playa de la Concha with its iconic railing to enjoy an unforgettable sunset.

And now we return to the Easo square that we have been told is the reference space of the Amara neighborhood. It has been believed by some that the Roman city had its seat where Donostia / San Sebastián is currently located and they began to call this population the Bella Easo and although new studies have verified that the situation that the Roman city occupied does not correspond to the one that it occupies in Currently Donostia / San Sebastián, it is still called that, especially when it is spoken of in a poetic tone.

Basque is spoken on both sides of the western Pyrenees; that is, in different areas of the French and Spanish states. In Donostia / San Sebastián, as in the entire Basque Autonomous Community, the official languages are Basque and Spanish.

It is the oldest language in Europe and I did not know its origin is unknown even to researchers. They say that genetically, it is an isolated language since it is one of the few languages to which no relationship has been found.

3,000 years ago, it was surrounded by non-Indo-European languages. Due to migratory movements, those languages gradually became extinct and by the first millennium BC, the Indo-European languages (Germanic, Romance, Slavic…) predominated in almost all of Europe. But Basque did not disappear, and has survived to this day!

Bertsolaritza is one of the most peculiar disciplines of Basque culture. The bertso consists of the improvisation of a sung verse, on a fixed rhyme and melody. It involves high doses of imagination, oral skills, and mental agility for the bertsolaris. Even today, Bertsolaris championships are organized throughout the territory, mainly in popular festivals. There are even Bert Solaris schools, how interesting! Let’s hear some of that.

And we arrive at the emblematic Playa de la Concha. For its surroundings, for its landscape, for its fine white sand… La Concha is a unique beach, and boy is it! Let’s rest here for a while, shall we?

One of the gastronomic treasures of Donostia / San Sebastián is its famous pintxos, culinary miniatures that range from the original slice of bread covered with food, to small creations of haute cuisine in miniature. So we have to go for pintxos because it is, without a doubt, a way of getting to know the culture, a show that combines laughter, conversation, movement, hustle and bustle, and fun. This Basque custom consists of going from bar to bar, taking a “zurito ” –a shot of beer shorter than a beer– or a “txikito” (small glass of wine) accompanied by a pintxo. The most frequented areas for this activity are the Parte Vieja and the Gros neighborhood. These two areas are full of bars overflowing with pintxos of all kinds. Each bar usually has a star pintxo. And they have explained the following to us:

If it is a cold pintxo, it is usually available at the bar, and it is eaten directly.

If it is a hot pintxo, ask the waiter.

When you go for pintxos, the normal thing is to have one drink (pintxo and drink) per bar, and then go to another bar.

It is usually paid at the end. It is customary for gangs to pay for rounds, or put a “pot” or “box” before starting (no paying each one his own in each bar).

Originally, the pintxo was held with a stick, hence the name “pintxo”. However, this traditional image has been evolving and today the pintxo is also miniature haute cuisine, elaborate flavors concentrated in small and delicious doses: from the traditional “Gilda” (which received its name precisely in that city) with olives, chili, and anchovy, to the brick of leeks and prawns, for example, going through a wide range of flavors that you will not want to miss. And since we love gastronomy, what if we go to the Basque Culinary Center or the University of Gastronomic Sciences to participate in a very special and delicious course!

This is how we come to Tabakalera, which was a tobacco factory in Donostia for 90 years and today is a center of contemporary culture. The main objective of the Tabakalera cultural project is to promote contemporary cultural creation in different fields and in all its phases (research, production, exhibition) as well as generate and share knowledge.

I love seeing how, after the demolition of the wall at the end of the 19th century and the successive expansion plans for the city, San Sebastián gradually acquired its current appearance with very elegant urban planning in an eclectic style.

If you like to cook, I think it’s time to prepare our ingredients to go to the kitchen and make some typical Iberian ham croquettes, click on the button, or if you prefer, keep traveling.

And that is how we leave this beautiful and interesting region of the planet with the desire to return. We will travel every week to another corner of this wonderful world, to discover, enjoy and fly with the imagination, I will wait for you every Friday and I ask you if you like me to share the content with your friends and give me a like and a review of your comments because with that you help me a lot to raise the ranking of this podcast, ALTERNATIVE REALITY A UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT SPACE THAT CREATES COMMUNITY If you want to know what the foundation does, include me in the labor and social integration of people with mental disabilities, go to www.incluyeme.org.

We make a difference. And as I always tell you when helping others, we mainly help ourselves. Until next week and thanks for traveling with me.
